Built for the forest.
Made for rooms with character.

It started life as a pool table — solid, well-built, the kind of thing that was made to last and then largely forgotten. Leigh Kelsey saw something else in it. A piece with serious bones underneath, waiting for a story worth telling.

The story he chose was Nottingham’s. The city has two great legends: an outlaw with a longbow and a talent for redistribution, and a brewing heritage that kept the East Midlands in ale for the better part of two centuries. Both are present here — the archer silhouette hand-painted across the surface, the lettering drawn in the tradition of the great British pub sign, the whole thing finished in a deep Sherwood Forest green that manages to be both jolly and entirely serious about itself. It belongs in a room with a good tap, a dart board and no apologies.

The distressed finish is deliberate — every scuff and fade applied by hand, the high-gloss varnish sealing it all in place for decades. Run your fingers across the surface and you’ll feel every layer of the story. The four chairs were originally pine — sourced separately, as chairs tend to be when a pool table doesn’t come with any. Each has been individually painted in the same deep green, distressed and sealed, so that they belong to the table without being identical to each other. A family with character rather than a matching set with none.

Built with the energy of a medieval tavern and the finish of a professional craftsman with forty years behind the brush. It refuses to behave like ordinary furniture. Good.

On the Paintwork

The archer silhouette on the table surface is hand-painted — not printed, not transferred, not applied with vinyl. It is drawn from Nottingham’s most famous legend and painted in the tradition of the great British pub sign: bold, confident and built to last. The lettering around the border is in the same tradition. Leigh Kelsey has forty years of sign-writing experience and this piece shows every year of it.

On the Chairs

The four chairs were originally pine — sourced separately, as chairs tend to be when a pool table doesn’t come with any.
